The outdoors can be significantly therapeutic for the spirit and mind, but new researches reveal that working outside can help protect against breast cancer, says a breast cancer surgeon in Kolkata. The researches indicate that vitamin D generation can reduce the incidence of breast cancer. A lack of vitamin D has been related to various illnesses and ailments, including breast cancer.

Vitamin D is known as the "sunshine vitamin" because your body creates it when exposed to ultraviolet B rays from the sun. Because the body can produce vitamin D throughout the day, outdoor workers who come in contact with sunlight are exposed to significantly higher quantities than those who work indoors. Women who work outside may be exposed to sunshine daily and hence have higher long-term vitamin D levels than women who stay indoors.

We don't need much sun exposure to produce enough vitamin D. In the summer, maximum daily vitamin D levels may be obtained after only a few minutes in the sun and additional time will not enhance the levels anymore, says the breast cancer doctor in Kolkata.

The study authors discovered that women who reported on-the-job exposure to sunlight for 20 or more years were 17 percent less likely to develop breast cancer after the age of 50 and women who reported the highest level of cumulative exposure to sunlight throughout their lives were 11 percent less likely to develop this cancer.

The findings indicate that spending time outside can reduce your chance of developing breast cancer. You don't have to spend a lot of time outside and in the summer, you may be able to store enough vitamin D to keep you safe throughout winter. Go for a stroll outside. We can all do this to improve our mental, physical and breast health, says the doctor of breast cancer surgery in Kolkata.
