In 2020, about 59,276 women in India were diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the cells of the ovary and fallopian tubes. The disease usually spreads to the belly, intestines, and liver. It is one of the most prevalent malignancies in women, affecting primarily women who have gone through menopause; however, it can also affect younger people.

Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

Constant bloating, having the urge to urinate more frequently than usual, loss of appetite, feeling full quickly and pelvic or abdominal pain are all indications of ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer is difficult to diagnose because the symptoms are similar to those of other illnesses such as irritable bowel syndrome. People who have been experiencing symptoms for more than a few weeks should consult their doctor. Those have a family history of ovarian cancer, in particular.

 

Surgical Treatment

Surgical removal of the tumour, which often involves removing ovaries, the womb, and the fallopian tubes, is the main treatment for ovarian cancer.

Research shows that 90% of women with ovarian cancer will live for five years or longer if diagnosed early. Only 5% of the patients will live for five years or more after being detected at a later stage.
